Summer by The Bay is a magical time of year in which professionals (opens in a new tab), interns (opens in a new tab), students (opens in a new tab), and many more flock to The City to participate in the plethora of San Francisco summer events. With the high concentration of innovative organizations attracting talent to the area, the entertainment options are endless and hard to keep track of.  Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to spend your free time during the much anticipated San Francisco Summer of 2019!

Broadway Musical Theater (opens in a new tab)

Right across the street from the state-of-the-art Trinity Place (opens in a new tab) at Market & 8th is the world-renowned Orpheum Theatre (opens in a new tab), the venue for Hamilton (opens in a new tab) in SF.  This play will run through September and has consistently sold out each performance so far.  However, SHN (opens in a new tab) also hosts a variety of well-known musical theater performances such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (opens in a new tab), Rent (opens in a new tab), and Harry Potter (opens in a new tab) at the Golden Gate Theatre (opens in a new tab) also on Market Street.  Trinity (opens in a new tab) is proud to offer resident discounts to performances and we greatly enjoy having such talented neighbors.

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival (opens in a new tab)

One of the best free events of the summer, the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival (opens in a new tab) is an ongoing array of independent performances celebrating the rich cultures and creativity of the Bay Area.  Events include salsa dancing, original poetry, children’s shows, and Circus Bella’s “Up in the Air.” (opens in a new tab)

Bay to Breakers (opens in a new tab)

San Francisco’s world-famous “Bay to Breakers” (opens in a new tab) is much more of a party than it is a standard race. Participants dress in the most colorful, outlandish, and downright weird costumes as they make their way across The City.  This historic race attracts serious runners from across the world along with weekend warriors looking for a reason to party.  The event typically attracts hundreds of thousands of competitors and spectators, making it one of the most well-known annual San Francisco events.  Make sure to participate if you want a glimpse of the quintessential SF experience.

If you’re in SF for the summer, viewing a Giants game in South Beach is surely a necessity. The Giants’ Oracle Park (opens in a new tab) is a true architectural masterpiece with sweeping views of the Bay Bridge and greater Bay Area.  Grab high-end ballpark bites while sipping craft beers and enjoying America’s Pastime in the California sunshine. You can also easily catch a BART (opens in a new tab) ride across the bay to see the A’s (opens in a new tab) play in the historic Oakland Coliseum (opens in a new tab).

Treasure Island is home to one of the most fantastic skyline views in the Bay Area, but did you know about the monthly “Treasurefest” (opens in a new tab) celebration?  Dine from your favorite food trucks, craft breweries, and local wineries all in one scenic location!  This festival takes place during the final weekend of each month and attracts thousands of visitors and vendors to the island for a day of endless excitement.

San Francisco will host a variety of festivals this summer and one of the most anticipated is Comedy Central’s “Clusterfest (opens in a new tab).”  This 3-day event takes place next door to Trinity Place (opens in a new tab) at the Civic Center Plaza (opens in a new tab) and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium (opens in a new tab) on Market Street.  A celebration of comedy, television, and music, this tremendous event will feature a variety of well-known performers such as Amy Poehler, John Mulaney, Patton Oswalt, Leslie Jones, and many more.  Located in the heart of San Francisco at Civic Center, expect to see travelers from all around the world flocking to this central destination to watch some of the funniest people on earth all in on place.

SF Pride Parade (opens in a new tab)

Known as one of the largest and oldest LGBTQ  parades in the world, SF Pride kicks off in the final weekend of June at the Embarcadero (opens in a new tab) and finishes in the heart of downtown at Market & Eighth Street.
The parade will feature over 200 contingents and exhibitors with more than 20 community run stages and venues around San Francisco.  Residents of Trinity Place (opens in a new tab) will be in the center of the action and can actually see the parade route from the rooftop of our 33 8th apartments (opens in a new tab).

SF Symphony (opens in a new tab)

Another fantastic summer option in the mid-market neighborhood are the phenomenal performances orchestrated by the SF Symphony.  Shows this summer include a tribute to Aretha Franklin (opens in a new tab), a 4th of July Spectacular (opens in a new tab), Pixar’s “Up,” and many more.

Jazz Festivals (opens in a new tab)

San Francisco will host two major jazz festivals in the SF Jazz Festival and Fillmore Jazz Fest. The latter, which takes over 12 blocks on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights (opens in a new tab), is a street fair featuring local breweries and food from all over the Bay Area. The SF Jazz Festival however, takes place in the Civic Center (opens in a new tab) neighborhood at the SF Jazz Center (opens in a new tab) near many of the other SF concert venues.

4th of July Fireworks at Fisherman’s Wharf (opens in a new tab)

The best place is SF to catch 4th of July fireworks is at Pier 39 in Fisherman’s Wharf (opens in a new tab).  This heavily trafficked area is sure to be packed but will also be a can’t-miss party!  If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, the Pier 39 fireworks can be viewed from various areas away from Fisherman’s Wharf.

If you’re looking to participate in the SF Marathon, then you better start training now!  Luckily, The SF Marathon allows you to choose between a 5k, half-marathon, full-marathon, or even an ultra-marathon!

Outside Lands 2019 (opens in a new tab)

Golden Gate Park’s most popular annual event is surely Outside Lands each August.  This three day music festival will feature headliners Childish Gambino, Paul Simon, and Twenty One Pilots (opens in a new tab) while also promising locally-sourced food in their “beer, wine, and cheese lands.” (opens in a new tab)
